Wonderful…in a concised manner. Probably all of us know this in some form or other, nevertheless bigger concern is to follow it religiously. We have ample distractions in life to deride us to take away from the right path. I am also victim of the same, but sometimes i feel …am i not trying to be perfectionist…where no one reaches but always remain uncomfortable. These are some thoughts whose answers i don’t get easily and then i end up living the way i have lived so far. I in the back of my mind do agree that it is sort of an justification rather a lam excuse to be in the prevailing situation. Let me understand your thoughts on it… Anish, Jhansi,

Thanks for this Ian, great article. Really brightened up my day!
Hi there Tommy. Glad I could help.
its great quotates help in our lives
Great note to begin with! (the 50 day challenge) I lietsned to the mp3 while looking over the pdf (its good to hear where Brain emphasizes) and listed the 5 areas that I *know* need work. This idea if impeccability or integrity comes around again and again. So when doing the exercise I was called to be impeccable, to really list the 5 areas that are the darkest and I may not spend time on simply because they are so “huge” in my consciousness. To list them out though, with an open heart, felt liberating and brought some light into the dark. My favorite part of this note is the quote from Vernon Howard — Encourage yourself by remembering that any detection of negativity within you is a positive act, not a negative one. Awareness of your weakness and confusion makes you strong because conscious awareness is the bright light that destroys the darkness of negativity. Honest self-observation dissolves pains and pressures that formerly did their dreadful work in the darkness of unawareness. This is so important that I urge you to memorize and reflect upon the following summary: Detection of inner negativity is not a negative act, but a courageously positive act that makes you a new person. Although not a quote directly from Ruiz it reminds me of his metaphor of the multi-headed Hydra. It runs our life and creates the Dream of the World. Doing the inner work is taking a sword and cutting off its heads, so it no longer functions in dictating what is real for us. It’s better to let the dark stuff run right in front of our eyes, than behind the scenes causing untold damage. Last point, the way of the master is repetition. I love that the note ends with this simple wisdom. It is the wisdom that empowers each and every one of us to live like Ruiz, Aristotle, the Buddha, Jesus, or whoever you like who took the time, put in their 10,000 hours, and tasted the fruit of their effort. Brings me back to…this moment, and what I am going to do in the next hour that enlivens, inspires, and adds value to the world. DO IT.
If someone were to ask me if I am a Buddist, I’d have to say yes. And, with a side note, that once one treuly becomes a Buddist, they realize that they are treuly one with everything! To me all religions, all voices and all writings are teachings, expression of the human being working to evolve his/her potential. Buddism has a way of teaching that transcends and includes all other forms of religion. I was born Jewish. And, it wasn’t until after studying Buddism that I know have a heart to heart connection with Christ. One of my favorite quotes from Sogyal Rinpoche is: Be a Christian, practice Buddism! Buddism teaches a way of understanding mind and its potential separate from dogma or rituals. Its very easy step by step way. However, the rituals are nice to and help us to see the world from the inside-out, something the English language or any lanugauage has diffficulty doing.Thank you for the essential education link. I pray that all religions will find a path that can universally flow for all.
Well said Ian.
Simplicity and Clarity – key ingredients for success
Hey there Judy! So true. We all have a tendency to over-complicate things. A lot of times all we have to do is remember that a lot of the time the most obvious answer is probably the right one.
Hi Ian
Thank you for sharing the 5 Reiki Principles and I especially love your positive tweeking of them – as an NLP practitioner and Hypnotherapist, as well as a Reiki practitioner, I am well aware of the effects of the positive words rather than the negative. Focus on what you do want and not what you don’t want. I would like to use them in the Reiki 1 manual I am presently creating, and of course acknowledging you for them. Thank you so much
Hi there Caterina!
I love the Reiki Precepts but always felt a little awkward saying them. Why focus on the negative when I can focus on the positive – especially if I’m saying them daily? That’s why I switched them up.
I’d be honored to contribute this to your Reiki level 1 manual.
Interesting thoughts.
