The Four Agreements

This post is by Shannon Flynn, the winner of the Four Agreements Workshop contest. She was kind enough to write this piece for us to share her experience and what she learned from her time there.

A few days before April 5th, I received an e-mail from Ian regarding this draw for these tickets. I had read The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz a few years ago and figured I’d throw my name in the draw.

On Monday, April 5th I woke up to a rainy day after plus 20 weather all weekend. Since I slept in, I made my way to the drive thru line at Tim Horton’s for breakfast.

As I was in this long line, I noticed the light on my cell phone blinking.

I checked my phone only to see an e-mail from Ian regarding these two tickets.

I had won for The Four Agreements workshop the upcoming weekend!

This e-mail caught me off guard.

Later on that morning, I won a coffee from the Tim Horton’s Roll up the Rim Contest.

During my lunch hour, I ran over the convenient store to pick up a lottery ticket.

How far can my lucky day go?

I invited a friend of mine to join me at the workshop. He was just thrilled to attend and to be able to learn more about The Four Agreements.

The first agreement is be impeccable with your words, the second agreement is to not take anything personally, the third agreement is not to make assumptions and the fourth agreement is always do your best.

Don Jose Ruiz added a fifth agreement to his father’s four. The fifth agreement is to be skeptical but learn to listen.

On the first day of the workshop, they opened the seminar with a woman named Debbie Danbrook, she is a master of the Shakuhachi, an ancient Japanese bamboo flute. Her music was amazing, very healing. I found it easy to connect with spirit and raise your vibrations while listening to her play.

Some of the quotes that hit a note with me were,

“Having awareness gives us the power to change the creation”
~ Don Miguel Ruiz. (The creation being ourselves)

“If I don’t judge myself, no one else will judge me. Free from my mind full of lies. Take off the mask and let the real you show itself”
~ Don Jose Ruiz.

This quote referring to judgment, could be by the way a person looks at you. It’s not what they may be thinking; it’s how we think about ourselves.

These quotes were very empowering for me.

On the last day of the workshop, Don Miguel Ruiz spoke about our dreams. That we dream to find the difference between reality and fantasy.

He turned on Don Jose Ruiz meditation CD called Circle of Shadows.

The meditation that we did while listening to this CD was absolutely amazing for me. During the meditation, I could see about 3 or 4 spirit energies around every person in the conference hall.

The healing energy was simply beautiful.

Don Miguel Ruiz then came around to some of the people in the group and placed his hands on their shoulders, I’m still not hundred percent sure if he came around me and put his hands on me. But, it sure felt like he did.

After the meditation, I felt that everything I needed healing on in the last couple of months, had been healed by this meditation.

I now know why I won these tickets and am so grateful to have this opportunity to have gone to this workshop and to be able to write my thoughts on the experience.
